Going on vacation for the holidays? Why not treat your dog to one as well? On December 1, Kristine and Evan Carroll celebrated their one-year anniversary of opening their premier pet facility that is designed to mimic the comforts of home and offer a stress-free stay. Bed & Bark Pet Resort was the first project completed and opened in Prescott Village, Bed & Bark is a high-end boarding service for dogs, cats, and small animals. “We started this project over five years ago and are so excited to see this dream take shape,” explains Kristine Carroll. “We have an in-house boutique that carries Orijen and Acana brand dog foods, pet toys, and treats. This year, we have expanded to offer grooming and daycare options as well.”
The Carrolls moved to Waxhaw in 2010 from New England when Evan was offered a job in the area. “Both Evan and I have always had a deep connection with animals but in very different ways,” recounts Kristine. “I grew up on a farm and felt called to work with animals from a very young age. After earning a degree in Psychology, I went to work in Sea World Orlando’s Animal Care and Behavior program, where I was responsible for the care and husbandry training of their Bottlenose Dolphin, Florida Manatee, and California Sea Lion populations. Evan received his degree in Psychology and has experience in police K9 training and high-level personal protection dog training. Evan did not grow up with animals, and we joke that now he overcompensates and wants all the dogs!” And this is a family affair! The Carroll’s children have become involved as well as Evan Carroll’s parents. They have also added employees as the business has grown.
A private dog suite at Bed & Bark features its own UV sanitized air supply, private k9 turf yard, and canine or kitty concierge specialist.
Bed & Bark also has a “Kitty and K9 Concierge” at their facility that will help create “Peace of Mind” for pet parents when they travel. Also, all employees are familiar with pet first aid and CPR because the pet’s health is paramount at Bed & Bark. “Bed & Bark was a ground-up build with over five years of planning,” says Kristine. “Every inch was designed by industry experts and is a showcase facility in both animal-focused design and care. All of our accommodations have completely private indoor and outdoor spaces, with solid, sealed walls and no line of sight between visitors. Each suite has its own UV sanitized air supply, private K9 turf yard, and canine or kitty concierge specialist certified in pet first aid to offer the individualized care and attention they are used to. Truly, this is only a small part of our list of amenities and unique features, and our website goes much more in-depth.”
“In 2021, Bed & Bark has worked to become a trusted, household name in the care of your fur-baby, with our ability to offer the safest and most stress-free vacation you and your pet have ever had,” says Kristine. “Bed & Bark is a small family business that went big. When you come to Bed & Bark, you will see three generations of our family working side by side because pets are our passion. Our facility is great, but it’s the love and care you feel when you come in our doors that makes us special.”
